3D printed house in paremoremo

We’re thrilled to share that two outstanding residential projects we contributed to, Aalto Apartments and the Paremoremo 3D Printed House have been recognised at this year’s prestigious Best Design Awards, hosted by The Designers Institute of New Zealand. This annual showcase celebrates excellence in design across Australasia, highlighting the industry’s transformation with awards in spatial, graphic, product, and digital design, as well as special honours for projects that exemplify the Value of Design, Public Good, and Toitanga.

In the Residential category, Aalto Apartments in Auckland was awarded Bronze for its outstanding approach to communal living. Located in Morningside, Aalto redefines urban density with its unique, carpark-free development, featuring 39 apartments and a breathtaking communal penthouse. This top-floor sanctuary offers residents panoramic city views, a lounge, kitchen, workspaces, and even a guest room for visiting friends and family. Thoughtfully designed with cycling and public transport in mind, Aalto demonstrates how urban spaces can enhance connectivity, sustainability, and quality of life in the heart of the city. Our Kirk Roberts team supported this project by providing architectural, BIM, fire and structural engineering consulting.

A finalist, the Paremoremo 3D Printed House project, which is a New Zealand first, is nestled on a semi-rural site outside Auckland. This family home combines sustainable design principles and a straightforward layout to create an affordable yet architecturally impactful residence. Built from innovative 3D-printed concrete elements, the structure showcases modern technology’s potential to shape functional, aesthetic, and eco-friendly living spaces. Our team provided geotechnical and structural engineering for this interesting project.

This recognition highlights our dedication to creating spaces that blend innovation with sustainability, aligning with our vision of contributing to well-designed, community-focused developments that enhance urban and rural landscapes alike.
