James Carter Joins Kirk Roberts

Expanding Regional Leadership and Capability

Kirk Roberts has welcomed James Carter to our senior team as Project Director, based in Nelson and working across Nelson, Wellington and Christchurch.

James’s appointment supports our continued growth across Nelson, the Top of the South and Wellington, strengthening our ability to provide clients with experienced local leadership backed by the resources and multidisciplinary capability of our national team.

A Chartered Structural Engineer with more than 24 years of experience in New Zealand and the UK, James brings extensive experience leading complex building and infrastructure projects. His work spans education, laboratories, commercial and industrial developments, sports facilities, residential buildings, and civil, marine and electrical infrastructure.

Since relocating to New Zealand in 2009, James has also developed significant expertise in seismic engineering. He has led major projects, including the University of Otago’s Research Support Facility, Wellington’s award-winning Ākau Tangi Sports Centre, and seismic assessment and strengthening work for Tasman District Council’s offices in Richmond.

James enjoys working alongside clients, consultants and contractors to develop practical, efficient solutions to complex challenges. He sees significant opportunities for engineers to help respond to New Zealand’s evolving building and infrastructure needs, while making better use of materials, technology and smarter ways of working.

James’s appointment is an important step in strengthening Kirk Roberts’ presence across the upper South Island and lower North Island. Based locally in Nelson, he will help build relationships and support projects across the region while connecting clients with expertise across Kirk Roberts’ national team.
