Kirk Roberts Consulting provided expert environmental investigation and contaminated land remediation services for the demolition and redevelopment of Linwood College in Christchurch. Engaged by Taggart, our environmental engineers ensured regulatory compliance and robust environmental management throughout the project’s duration.
The presence of asbestos-contaminated subfloor soils posed significant challenges during demolition and required meticulous planning from our team to avoid cross-contamination.
Working closely with Taggart, we developed tailored demolition methodologies, ensuring contaminated and clean materials were carefully separated. These strategies optimised clean fill disposal and recycling, achieving cost-effective and environmentally responsible outcomes.
This demolition was part of the post-quake $1 billion Christchurch schools rebuild programme and made way for the construction of what is now known as Te Aratai College. The project showcased Kirk Roberts’ ability to manage complex contaminated land earthworks, providing seamless collaboration with contractors, design consultants, and stakeholders. Our approach ensured effective remedial solutions were integrated into final designs while maintaining cost-efficiency and regulatory compliance. We’re pleased to be supporting the redevelopment of our community.
