Sustainable design meets geotechnical precision
At Kirk Roberts, we’re proud to have partnered with PurePods – one of New Zealand’s most innovative and environmentally conscious accommodation providers. The PurePod concept blends minimalist luxury with untouched landscapes, offering guests a way to disconnect and immerse themselves in the beauty of Aotearoa. With currently 16 secluded locations across the country, each PurePod is architecturally designed to tread lightly on the team environment.
One such project brought us to Waitomo, where the Matū PurePod sits elegantly above rolling King Country farmland. With panoramic views and peaceful seclusion, the location is as breathtaking as it is geotechnically complex.
Local Geotechnical Expertise in Action
Our Waikato-based geotechnical team led the investigation and assessment for this unique site. This included a full geotechnical evaluation of the proposed site including stormwater and wastewater assessments, and preparation of documentation to support the building consent application.
The site’s elevated and remote nature required careful consideration of ground stability, drainage, and environmental sensitivity.
Monitoring a Light Footprint
Kirk Roberts also provided construction monitoring during the installation of the PurePod’s foundations and supporting infrastructure, ensuring the build followed our technical recommendations and maintained its low-impact footprint.
Partnering with a Purpose
Working with PurePods reflects our shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and smart design. It’s a partnership that showcases how engineering expertise can support extraordinary guest experiences while preserving the integrity of the natural environment.
“The PurePod concepts demands precision – minimal environmental impact, remote access, and integration with the natural landscape. The geotechnical services that we provide PurePod for their breathtaking sites across Aotearoa means that we are required to provide a tailored approach for each site while balancing ground conditions, stormwater management and infrastructure design requirements without compromising the environment. It is a privilege to support a brand that shares our commitment to smart and sustainable development. Our team love being part of projects across Aotearoa that blend in beautifully into the natural landscape.” Steve Temple, KR Regional Manager Hamilton
