Engineering and architectural consultants for New Zealand’s largest Padel facility
Delivering New Zealand’s newest and largest Padel club required more than just great design. It demanded clear leadership, careful coordination, and seamless integration across multiple disciplines.
How architectural design shaped New Zealand’s largest Padel club
Our Tauranga-based architectural team led the project from initiation to completion, providing design leadership, coordination, and statutory support. This was the client’s first development of its kind, so clear guidance was critical. Working closely with the owners and consultants, our architects balanced the sport-specific requirements of four international standard padel courts with the design of a prefabricated clubroom and supporting facilities.
To achieve seamless integration, the team coordinated directly with European court manufacturers to align the foundations, steel and glass structures with local site requirements. The result was a facility that is both functional and visually striking.

What are the benefits of multidisciplinary design management for sports and recreation projects?
Sports and recreation projects often involve many moving parts including specialist court design, clubroom facilities, statutory approvals, and multiple consultants. Without strong coordination, these elements can lead to delays, extra costs, or design clashes.
At The Padel Club NZ, Kirk Roberts provided architectural, structural and fire design while also acting as the design lead to organise and manage the wider project team. This included coordinating with international padel court suppliers and aligning with external civil and geotechnical engineers engaged by the client.
Being a multidisciplinary firm ourselves, we are experts at collaborating and organising project design for fast and efficient results that benefit our clients.
Our design management approach delivered three clear benefits:
- Efficiency: Acting as the central point of communication ensured accurate design updates and avoided clashes.
- Cost and time certainty: Early structural involvement and integrated design reduced rework, supporting the client’s budget and compressed programme.
- Quality outcomes: Close collaboration ensured the courts, foundations, and prefabricated clubroom aligned with the architectural vision and building consent requirements.
For the client, this meant reduced risk, smoother delivery, and confidence that New Zealand’s largest Padel facility would be completed successfully.
