Relocatable Flood Solution for Kaiapoi Stormwater Project

Kirk Roberts collaborated with Prime Fluid Management (formerly Prime Pump) and True-Line Civil for the civil infrastructure design and construction monitoring of a new surface-mounted stormwater pumping station.

With a total capacity of 3500L/s the McIntosh Drain in North East Kaiapoi, Canterbury serves 1,500 hectares of rural land and now provides the community with a reliable and adaptable flood management system, helping to protect Kaiapoi from future risks. This is because it forms a long, narrow corridor between the Kaiapoi River and ancient sand dunes, and is prone to flooding.

Our civil engineering team was responsible for the detailed design and drafting of the pipeworks, fittings, and connections between the inlet chamber and discharge pipes, extending to the newly constructed fence. We also provided technical guidance to the contractor and client during the construction stage.

With the pump above ground it is more accessible, cost effective and in the event of an earthquake reduces the risk of damage if it was underground.
