Timeless design breathing life back into an inner-city neighbourhood.

Featuring Ockham’s signature warm-red brick, the rectangular building encompasses 32 apartments and is beautiful yet practical. The shared penthouse lounge provides occupants of this build-to-rent development with incredible cityscape views and a luxury space for relaxation and connection.

A stunning example of intelligent intensification, The Nix, also known as the Star Newton, has received a Merit Award in the Multi-Unit Residential category of the New Zealand Property Industry Awards 2023.

The Challenge: Single-site full coverage building

Strategically designed to make the most of the small 354 sqm site, The Nix required detailed and collaborative engineering with no room for unforeseen circumstances. Due to the full-site coverage of the development, the ground conditions required improvement for the proposed building. Complex fire engineering was needed to help the 32-apartment building comply with fire regulations, and the six storeys of complex brick façade required engineering from our structural team.
